We cut the cord to our cable TV and cable phone about 6 years ago now and could not be happier. We are saving hundreds of dollars a year and have more free time through the elimination of commercials. I am just now coaching my Dad on how he can cut the cord at his house. If a 75 year old man can do it, then so can you!
Is Cutting the Cable Cord Safe for Older Folks?
The one thing I am concerned with as he gets rid of his landline phone is 911 calls. I know those can be a little iffy with cell phones. Fortunately, there are services that let you use your internet to make safe 911 calls where they can actually track down your location. I don’t really worry about it much for our family, but as my Dad ages I think it’s a real concern.
What Cords Can I Cut to Save Money?
The obvious “cord to cut” when you want to save money is TV cable and cable phone. Just doing that saves the average person $70 – $100 a month. Not too bad right? But have you considered other areas where you might be able to “cut the cord” and save some green?
Maybe you have considered cutting the “work” cord? If you are an office-type worker, then you may be able to work out a deal with your employer where you can work from home one or more days a week. That is sure to save you a bundle in transportation costs and commute time!
How about cutting your power cord? No I don’t mean literally – I mean going with more energy efficient appliances and conserving energy where possible.
