Check out some of these great yard sale deals that our family has been able to snag recently in the April 2014 time frame. If you are not taking advantage of the savings that yard sales have to offer, then what the heck are you waiting for?!? The deals you can find at yard sales will beat retail by 95%- 99%!!! What’s not to love?
Yard Sale vs Retail – Aeropostale Shirt
My wife found this great Aeropostale shirt for a quarter at one yard sale. I would never pay full price for this type of t-shift, but you can’t really refuse a perfectly good t-shirt for $0.25, can you?
Yard Sale Deals for April 2014 – REI Fall/Winter/Spring Jacket
My wife found this REI jacket as yard sales were winding down one Saturday. They wanted $5 for it, but I bargained for $3 since it was very late in the day (nearly 1pm). They went for the deal! I am now the proud owner of a sweet new jacket. It’s been discontinued, but I think it would normally retail for something around $120 – here’s something similar to what it looks like.
Yard Sale vs Retail – Jeans
I’m not really sure of the brand as I am typing this, but at $0.50 does it really matter? They fit well and there are no real problems with them. Not sure why someone would be selling these, but oh well 🙂
Yard Sale vs Retail – Bass Hiking Boots
These great boots retail for about $50 new. These were marked at $1 for the pair – pretty hard to resist. They are in about 8/10 condition and should last for for several more years. I don’t have any type of outdoor shoes for walking/hiking at all, so this was a perfect find for me!
Yard Sale vs Retail – Final Thoughts
I’m so glad I’ve finished up my MBA classes so that I can get back into yard sales. The deals are just unbeatable, and it feels so great to buy useful stuff at 98% off! I also enjoy the bargaining aspect of yard sales, although that part isn’t for everyone…
Below, you’ll find a pic of me sporting my whole new outfit that cost me less than $5 total! That’s a complete outfit that would normally cost me $240 if I bought everything brand new! If loving yard sale deals is wrong, then I don’t want to be right 🙂

Haha, that little figure is awesome. You scored a lot of great deals! I would love to go to more yard sales, but we aren’t really in need of anything right now. We might go just to wander around if a local one pops up.

EM,
Yeah – sometimes if you are not careful you end up buying stuff you don’t really need. I guess the good news is it helps our family get out some of our “consumer/spending” type energy at a real low price 🙂

Great bargains you got there!
We don’t really have yard sales over here in the UK. We have car boot sales but when I have the chance to go to one, I just can’t seem to find many bargains.

Hmmm… that’s unexpected. I must admit that my yard sale experiences are pretty localized. Maybe it is just an american thing that is predicated on most peoples tendency to over-consume on stuff until the house is overflowing with junk. Do they have a craigslist active over there?

Awesome! I love yard sales, flea markets, and thrift stores. If you have the patience to do a little digging, there’s good stuff to be found for a steal. You got some amazing deals!

Lauren,
I tend to like yard sales the best because you’re in and then out. Flea markets are like information overload for me 🙂

Nice work, and nice picture as well – I wish I could pull off an image or two for my site, but my technical skills are limited! We recently had a yard sale and it netted us over $400, not bad for a few hours work. The yard sales I go to tend to have junky stuff but once and a while there is a diamond in the rough. It is fun to be on the hunt for a treasure though, sort of like that show ‘Storage Wars’

Dan,
The best tip I have is wait for the neighborhood yard sales in sections of town that are upper-middle class. They usually have awesome stuff and they are trying to get rid of it quickly, so items are priced to move.
Also, if you’ve got the inclination, check out GIMP. This is a free program that’s just about as powerful as Photoshop. You can find free tutorials and be semi-pro in just a couple of hours.

Those are awesome finds Derek! We go to garage sales in the area and then flip stuff on Craigslist for a bit of extra cash. Bikes are my specialty. I can get bikes for $10-$20 and flip them for $80-$100 with a bit of work. It’s not a ton of money but it’s a bit of extra cash for spending. Cheers, Thomas.

Thomas,
That’s a great idea! I am looking to get into something that is more expensive with the same return. So instead of turning $2 into $20, if I can get bikes to go $10 in $100 that would be awesome. Are there any types of bikes in particular that seem to work well? Kid’s bikes, adult bikes, etc?
-Thanks!
