After five months of intense work, my stock market investing book is nearly complete! I cannot wait to finish it and share it with you and others that are interested in stock market investing!
Why Did I Pick Stock Market Investing Book?
When I got it into my head that I needed to write an Ebook, I decided to take a step back and ponder my strengths. What special knowledge did I have that the average joe did not posses? After a short brainstorming exercise, it became clear to me that writing a stock market investing book was the way to go. I love stock market investing, and I want to share my skills to help others be successful.
Will the View be Worth the Climb?
Well, after five months of hard work this stock market investing book is nearly complete. It took so much more time than I ever could have imagined to put together a quality product. I was so used to writing blog posts that I really did not appropriately gauge the amount of time it would take to plan, organize, write, edit, and format the book. I would say that writing the book is really only 50% of the work.
The remaining 50% of time I spent to create the book was spent planning, organizing, editing, formatting, and developing a cover for the book. I ran some back of the envelope calculations and determined that when everything is said and done, I could have written ~70 blog posts for the amount of time I invested in writing this book. Will it be worth it? Time will tell, but I am very optimistic as I feel that the Ebook and paperback book are comparable in quality and content to some other very popular stock market investing books currently available.
What’s Left to Finish?
The final step I have to complete for the Ebook is some last minute formatting on some of the figures. I can then declare electronic success.
For this Ebook, I am planning to publish through the Kindle Direct Publishing program. I chose this route over self promotion because of Amazon’s large user base and marketing potential. We’ll see how that decision pays off.
In parallel, I am also working on the paper copy of the stock market investing book through the Amazon Createspace service. This is a neat service that will publish your book and print it on-demand as people order it. Very cool! The main challenge for me here has been fixing all of the formatting and figures to not overrun into the margins – a mistake I didn’t realize until the entire book was complete (or so I thought)
I have the proof on order for the paper copy of the book now. I plan to release the Ebook and the paper copy of Stock Market Investing for Newbies the first week or two in July if everything goes according to plan. Wish me luck 🙂
Your Thoughts on the Cover?
I tried to keep the book cover simple and clean. Since I’m selling the idea of simplicity and the book is tailored toward stock market investing newbies, I chose to take a minimalist approach. What do you think of the book cover – thumbs up or thumbs down?

Nice work, Derek! Looking forward to hearing how your experience goes with selling it. I’ve thought about using Amazon self publishing for fictional works at some point. I like the cover- minimal and sleek!
