This is one of those money saving tips that I’ve been keeping a secret for a while now… Shoplifting! The benefits of shoplifting are wide-fold. Let’s look at a couple of tips if you’re looking to start shoplifting and save yourself a bundle of money.
Money Saving – Shoplifting Tips – Reasons for It
The reasons for shoplifting should be obvious. It’s a quick and easy way to save a lot of money. Most personal finance sites will be taking about coupons and discounts. Here at MoneyAhoy, I’ll teach you about the best discount of all – the five-finger discount! You can even use shoplifting to make money!! “What’s that you say? How do I make money with shoplifting?” Well, take the stolen items and sell them to your friends or special loved ones! That’s how!
As you can see, there really is no reason not to shoplift. You just need to take a couple precautions to ensure you keep your actions a little discreet.
Money Saving – Shoplifting Tips – Top-3
Here are my top shoplifting tips. I’ve honed and refined this list over the years to boil it down to just the top-3:
- Do NOT shoplift in department stores – There is too much security through CCTV. Also, mall cops are generally not people you want to mess with as they can be pretty dangerous if angered.
- Wear baggy or loose fitting clothing – This allows you to get away with taking more loot, and will make it harder to detect your discreet activities.
- Take things that a normal person would carry around with them – Don’t steal stuff like CDs, Videogames, etc. as a normal person would not be carrying these around. Candy, gum, and other personal items that a reasonable person could be expected to carry in their pocket should be your primary target!
- BONUS TIP – Hungry and looking for something to steal? Try grapes! No one will ever question if you try 10-20 of them right there in plain sight. If that doesn’t satisfy your hunger, you can always return multiple times. My wife does this all the time and it works great!

I do not condone stealing in any way whatsoever!
Zee says
You should really steal someone else’s ID first that way if you get caught you can just pass the blame onto them.
Derek Chamberlain says
There you go – I didn’t even think of that! Great bonus tip… that’s probably not even illegal 🙂

These are the sort of tips we need more of. Investing, and spending less have so much less agency than the elegant and timeless art of shoplifting. You wisdom has touched me so deeply I am feeling a copy, paste, publish urge striking…
Derek Chamberlain says
Hahaha, very well put 🙂 I guess shoplifting probably is the second oldest profession.
Brock @cleverdude says
LOL…why work hard for stuff when you can just steal it! 🙂

Sheesh. I’m a new visitor who wandered over from a comment you posted elsewhere about Progressive’s snapshot device. (Mine just arrived, and I’m having a major case of second thoughts.)
I was looking for your review of it, but this title got me, and I clicked here first.
Have to say, I was rethinking whether or not to even go read the review – as in, how the heck can this guy be credible? – til I got to the comments! (What can I say… it’s the 9th, and April Fool’s is more than a week behind me. 🙂 )

Out of all the April fools posts this has to be one of the best. Money Mustache had a good one too with a comparison of some huge gas-guzzling SUVs and which would be best for a family. I totally forgot to do one for April fools so I will have to try to remember next year
