Upon landing in Brazil, my phone received an automatic text from AT&T telling me that I was out of the country – no duh! The text advised me that I would be charted $19.95 per MB!!!!! Not Gigabyte – $19.95 a MEGABYTE!! WTF?!?
The text also informed me that I could purchase data plans ranging from $20 – $40. Hmm…. there had to be a better way. The airport had free wi-fi, if only there was a way I could get word to my wife without costing me a fortune…
How to Send Free SMS Text Through Email – The Details
OK, I cannot take credit for this because I found out how to do it through Google, but I’m sharing it with you here in case you haven’t seen this tip yet.
You can very simply send an email to your friend of loved one in a special format that will automatically send an SMS text to their cell phone. To send a free SMS text through email, you need to use a SMS gateway. All you need to do it substitute the 10-digit phone number of the person you are trying to text. For example, if my wife’s cellphone # is 312-555-1234 and she was with AT&T, I would need to send an email to: 3125551234@txt.att.net
